Ever After – What Matters Most
[Unsigned]
8.5/10
The North Carolina unsigned metalcore outfit, Ever After, is here again to release a new EP entitled What Matters Most. This EP is a follow-up release to their EP entitled Once Upon A Time. After listening to their first EP to get a feel for the band, I dove headfirst into What Matters Most and the progression surprised me. Most unsigned bands don’t really progress, but Ever After took their songwriting and abilities to a whole new level. The two stand out tracks are a reworked version of previously released song, “Nothing Is Over” in which the band is calling, “Nothing Is Over 2.0″ and the fourth track, “Hammerhead.” Guttural screams, honest lyrics, consistant instrumentation, and brutal breakdowns charge through the whole EP. The EP ends on a totally different note with a piano and clean vocals outro. While there are clean vocals littered throughout the EP, they can be solid, but at other times they tend to just seem as filler and the singing sounds shaky. While Ever After definitely shows promise with What Matters Most, it just seems like they need to do more to set themselves apart from the rest of the crowd. The EP is great, but it just feels recycled. The EP truly has some bangers on it, and it’s easy to listen to and enjoy. Ever After is on a path which shows real promise and could lead them to a successful career in the metal scene.
