Modern Day Escape

Standby Records’ Modern Day Escape had a rough time getting started as a full band but when they finally got it together they wasted no time attacking the scene. They recorded a CD and set out touring before signing to Standby Records. Back in August they released their debut full-length entitled ” House Of Rats” and are touring until the holidays.

We recently had the chance to interview the band as they were finishing the “Let’s Get Sweaty” tour. We got to talk a little bit about the upcoming tours and a music video with Jesus Vader or Darth Jesus with handcuffs or something. Click “Continue Reading” to read the interview and go buy their record. It’s really good!

Audiopinions: How’s the mid to late August weather treating you? You guys seem to have a full plate all the way to Halloween night.

Modern Day Escape: AMAZING! Especially being in California for our video shoot.

AO: You guys are currently finishing up the Let’s Get Sweaty tour. What bands were on this tour and how has it been?

MDE: We actually went on this tour late due to personal reasons, so it was all on our own. Luckily though, this meant we could play with some of our really good friends in different areas when they happened to be in town. Like our LA show tonight with Aiden.

AO: You guys are then shooting a music video for “Let’s Get Sweaty”. Can you tell us what the video is going to consist of?

MDE: Darth Vader, Jesus, Handcuffs. We’ll leave it at that for now.

AO: You guys than start the 90-TOUR-10 tour with Destruction of a Rose, Tonight is Glory, and No Bragging Rights, with no North Carolina date(s) of course. Anything you want to say about this tour? Expectations? Excited for a specific tour date or venue?

MDE: Really excited about it! It’s our first tour with some of our buddy’s off the label. We been hearing a lot of buzz, and wanna[sic] see what the kids out there can really do at a show.

AO: In October you guys are going to tour with I Am Abomination on the Turn Up the HeaTour tour. Have you guys toured with I Am Abomination before? Any reason for shows in both Charlotte and Raleigh but not the eastern part of the state? Haha

MDE: No we haven’t, we try not to go on tour with the same band twice unless it’s for good reason. You’d have to ask our management about the North Carolina thing.

AO: Seriously though, any expectations for that tour? Any touring plans after that or is there going to be a break for the holidays?

MDE: We only take Thanksgiving through New Years off. But our next year is gonna[sic] be huge, we’ll keep everyone posted on our site.

AO: Have you guys thought about doing some of the increasingly popular Hot Topic?

MDE: Hot Topic seems to be more about acoustic performances, we usually like to get down and dirty so when they are up for it…we will be too.

AO: What dream tour would you love to be on with any past or present bands?

MDE: Third Eye Blind, A Day to Remember (Gotta[sic] keep the Florida love together), Avenged Sevenfold, & Weird AL. When they have the guts to make it happen…we’ll be waiting.

AO: You guys have recently released “House of Rats”. What has been the reaction from the fans and critics?

MDE: Everyone but my grandma loves it. We said we weren’t changing much just growing the music and making everything bigger, no one seems to have argued yet.

AO: What is it like being signed to Standby Records?

MDE: Good, it’s always different to be on the ground level of an up and coming Indie Label. We are looking forward to seeing what they can really do.

AO: Are you close to any of the other bands on Standby?

MDE: We knew Destruction of a Rose since back in the day, met at a party…before either of us were signed. Ironic where we ended up.

AO: Has there been a label that you have dreamed about signing with? Why/Why not?

MDE: Anyone that can put us on the moon and work as hard as we do. We’ve heard horror stories about Victory, but hell…they sure do let the people know about their bands.

AO: You guys are from Orlando, Florida. Have you guys played any shows with any of the big names out of Florida?

MDE: Nope, up until now we’ve been struggling just to survive…let alone make it on our own. Florida’s bands never seem to be there…hmmm…we’re actually considering moving…

AO: Are there any up and coming bands you would like our readers to know about?

MDE: Modern Day Escape

AO: HAHA! What are your thoughts of illegal downloading and CDs getting leaked onto the internet?

MDE: Show me another way to pay my bills besides money, and I’ll do what I do for free.

AO: Thank you for your time and making me realize how hard it is to not say “ya’ll” in these haha. Any final thoughts?

MDE: Haha, no worries. How ya’ll doin?[sic]
